Re: the poets
by Fly Girl

Greg wrote:
Spend the night in a crowded drunk tank with Bubba, a large man who can't
take his eyes off of you, Raul, who wants you to meet his sister when you
both get out and promises a good time, Rolanda, whom you first found
strangely attractive then of course you learned to keep your distance...

Then you may have something to write about. Until then, dream of Ginsberg,
Eliot, and Whitman, scrawl anything in your earnest journal of no
importance, sleep deeply in your verbal Avalon whispering of Camelot or hang
out in coffee shops and wear black a lot.

----------------

I recently read an interview with Amy Jo Kim. She is coming out with a book
about online communities. She said a community must have a sustainable
business model to survive. RFM does not have a business model. RFM is a
poem.

It is social revolution in that it gives voice to the disenfranchised. It is
alternative in that it is not afraid of politics. It is passionate in an
alienated world.

When I read the thoughts of this woman who translates the world of online
communities into the world of business, I felt like I was being kicked in
the stomach for in her value system, this community wouldn't be valid. RFM
will never fit into the boxes, and I just wanted to ask:

Is there no room for the poets?
